Susan MacDonald & Julie Anne (Human Resources Officer)

Dear Susan,

I would like to apply for a part time position to assist with the preparation of correspondence for publication.  I have been reading your pages for some weeks now, and am in absolute agreement with your views on all the subjects covered in your excellent publication.

I use Microsoft Word 2000.  I believe I have a reasonable command of the English language.  I regularly edit various documents for my own use, and am familiar with the 'find' and 'replace' commands, as well as the use of the spell checker.

I would be pleased to offer my help to you, entirely without payment or any other obligation, as a way of repaying my debt to you for providing me with such satisfying reading.
Yours sincerely,

Framlot

What a month it has been! Poor Julie Anne's desk has been flooded with applications, of which the above are good examples. I doubt if she realised that her new position as Director of Human Resources would be so challenging, but she has sent out a letter of acceptance to all our new staff, and Miss Gribble has had her hands full ordering in a new case of Lipton's 'Signal' tea, and several tins of Kempwright's cream biscuits.

Some of the new girls needed guidance from Julie Anne regarding the petticoated.com dress code. A good girdle should be worn, or preferably a full length corselette. Comfortable plain cotton knickers can be worn underneath. Over the corselette a soft lacy-knit vest in cooler weather, and long leg full bloomers, measuring no more than three inches above the knee. Stockings or tights can be black or navy blue - we are very liberal at petticoated.com.

A satin finish slip is best underneath one's skirt or dress. Petticoats are lovely to wear, but any girl of my generation knows how difficult to manage a full petticoat can be on a bus - or driving a car, for that matter. A pleated tartan skirt is ideal, but new employees have been firmly told to take no notice of the persistent rumours that staff who wear the MacDonald dress tartan will receive more rapid promotion. That is just malicious gossip.

A pretty blouse looks nice in summer, which is upon us now, or in the colder months a comfortable sweater or twin set, perhaps with a modest string of pearls. Shoes, of course, should be sensible and low-heeled. Earrings will be tolerated, and modest make-up.

I hope you all enjoy working with us. Working conditions are a little antedeluvian, but the staff are a very friendly bunch, and I am sure that you will all have a good time.
Susan
