No 1: Louth Market

Once a month, on a Wednesday,
I drive my ever-reliable Hillman Minx to the quaint market town of Louth,
in the Lincolnshire wolds. Louth is the birthplace of Alfred Lord Tennyson,
author of 'The Charge of the Light Brigade', and 'The Lady of Shallott'.
It is a pretty and sleepy town, except on Wednesdays, when the weekly market
attracts visitors for miles around.
This picture was taken
on a rather gloomy day, but is all the more authentic for that. Not every
day in these islands is a day of brilliant blue sunshine, especially in
Louth. The town is the home of many interesting organisations, including
the Louth Model Aero Club, and the spectacularly unsuccessful Louth United
Football Club, whose spine-tingling fixture for the new season can be viewed
