Lindsey's Answer

Smoke city! This arrived less than an hour after we had published; thank goodness the staff here are flexible, and don't mind doing a bit of overtime! I give Lindsey's e-mail:

Hi Susan,

Just thought you might like to know.  In this month's online  issue there's a scan of two photos in the 'General Correspondence'
section of a boy in a plaid dress being put into a wig.

Well, the boy's name is Tim Hovey, and the movie was called 'Everything but the Truth', which also starred John Forsythe
and Maureen O'Hara.  The photos were apparently taken off-set while Tim was getting ready.  The woman in the photos was not
in the movie itself.  Unfortunately, he was only in two, very brief scenes for barely more than a minute while 'disguised' as a girl.

I've attached a JPG of him in one of the scenes which takes place at an airport baggage counter.  Much to the bewilderment
of a man standing nearby, O'Hara (who's holding his hand) calls him ' William', his male character's name, as they get ready to leave. He certainly doesn't look much like a William, does he?

He looks absolutely gorgeous, and this just goes to show how sweet and pretty a boy can be made to be. I am sure quite a few of my male readers would benefit from being dressed in such a pretty outfit - I do love his woolly girlish gloves.

'Everything but the Truth' (1956) was a comedy which garnered few good reviews, about a little boy who embarrasses his family by telling the truth at all times, after joining a truth crusade at his school. It was directed by Jerry Hopper, whose film work was uniformly routine. Why it was necessary to dress William as a girl I don't know, but this is one film to watch out for.
