Every Boy's Fancy Dress-Up Book
by Violet Elisabeth Bott

This wonderful book was sent to me some time ago, but I only now have a working scanner. Violet Elisabeth Bott was William Brown's girlish nemesis, and she was always able to confuse William with her pretty, feminine wiles. Readers will see more of the pictures in future issues. These are the dummy discipline ones:

Violet Elisabeth has included her own notes on all the outfits:

1. Romper suit in red check cotton gingham: Peter Pan collar, smocking on chest, short puff sleeves, button fastening between legs, elasticated sleeves, legs and waist. Usually worn with nappy, plastic baby pants, short white ankle socks and shiny black patent leather Mary Jane shoes.

2. Toddler’s frock and knickers set, in green silk: The dress is decorated with frilling across the bodice and along the edge of the skirt, the puff sleeves and the Peter Pan collar. The knickers are full bloomer style, and long enough to show the frilled cuffs below the skirt of the dress. Narrow black ribbon gathers the cuffs of the sleeves and the knicker legs, and is fastened in neat decorative bows. There is a sash belt tied with a large floppy bow. No other underwear is worn, just frilled white ankle socks with green trim and shiny green patent leather Mary Jane shoes.

3. Baby doll nightdress: The frock is pink nylon with pink ruffling around the hem. It is cut very full, and is sleeveless with just two narrow shoulder straps. The panties are white nylon with rows of frills across the seat and around the legs. If necessary they can be worn over a nappy and plastic pants. Pink knitted baby’s bootees tied with pink satin ribbons are worn over plain white ankle socks.

4. Little boy’s suit: Consists of black velvet short trousers and a white silk blouse. The shorts are very short, and fit tightly across the seat, they have a flap front, secured by white pearl buttons at either side. The short-sleeved blouse has an elasticated waist, a Peter Pan collar and is trimmed with black ric-rac and a floppy red bow at the throat. Training pants are worn, and long white socks with silver buckled black pumps.

5. Babygrow: A blue check gingham bubble romper with a plain neck and short puff sleeves. It fastens between the legs with press studs. Elastic is threaded through the hem of the neck, sleeves and legs. The babygrow should be worn over a nappy and waterproof baby pants. Bootees can be worn if desired, and a dummy pinned onto the bodice looks very sweet.

6. Bloomers and teddy in ecru crepe de chine: The teddy is fastened between the legs with buttons, and has a camisole type top with narrow shoulder straps and a band of fine lace across the top. The bloomers are made very full and go over the teddy. They have strong elastic in the waist band and are gathered into a broad cuff with an ornamental bow on each leg. Short white ankle socks are worn with strap shoes that have a slight heel.

I hope there are some girls at the fancy dress party to join in the fun, and give him an encouraging pat on the bottom. There are quite a few more pages to publish, and readers will see the next series in the Spring issue. This was 'The Nursery'. Next issue: 'The Kindergarten.'
