Violet Elisabeth Bott's series of suitable fancy dress for boys who are in need of a dose of petticoat discipline continues. The first series was 'The Nursery', published in the 2002 issue of 'Dummy Discipline Digest'.

1.Short smock and matching bloomers in red flannel: The smock has a plain yoke, long set-in sleeves gathered at the cuff, and a plain round neck. Small yellow bows decorate the wrists and yoke line. The matching bloomers are, of course, meant to show. Short white ankle socks with turn-down tops are worn with red patent leather Mary Jane shoes.

2 Summer frock and apron: The plain green cotton dress, with white-trimmed short sleeves and white Peter Pan collar, has a normal waist line and a flared skirt. The bodice fastens at the back with press studs. The apron has stand-up flounces at the shoulders, and ties at the back with a pretty bow. It has pretty ric-rac applique on the flounces, pockets and hemline. Plain white panties would be best, with short white ankle socks and green patent leather Mary Janes.

3. Gingham summer frock and pinafore: This short-sleeved dress in yellow and brown check gingham is high waisted and has a white Peter Pan collar and dainty white frills on the sleeves. There are matching gingham knickers to go with the dress, but these should not show. The pinafore has lace on the apron and fastens at the back with a large bow. White ankle socks with frills and black Mary Janes are worn.

4 Winter smock dress: This warm, long-sleeved dress in blue winceyette with white spots, has a high waist with three button fastening. The sleeve-ends are elasticated and frilled, and the Peter Pan collar is white. Although short ankle socks are shown with the Mary Janes, long brown stockings and warm flannel knickers might be better.

5. Party dress with lacy drawers: Made of warm brushed wool, this high-waisted yellow dress has small sprigs of flowers embroidered allover. The Peter Pan collar and the wrist bands are crisp white cotton, and there is a half belt tied at the back. The dress is deliberately short in order to display the dainty lace fringing the legs of the cotton drawers. Frilled white half-socks and shiny black pumps should be worn.

6. Voile party frock: This pale pink, smock type dress, is made with two layers of filmy voile and has long puff sleeves. The deep neck is trimmed with a white frilled fichu, and both the sleeves and the hemline have similar frilly trimming. There is also a white bow at the cleavage, and one on each sleeve. Opaque white tights and pink party shoes are worn with this outfit.
