No 14 Loch Callater, Scotland
From Julie Anne
Loch Callater is located near Braemar, and is on an old drovers' route known as Jocks Road. Cattle were moved down this route to the ‘fairm toons’ of Kirriemuir and beyond.

The peak at the head of the loch is called Tolmount. It is a ‘Munro’, as are the hills on either side. 'Munro' is the collective name for all hills over 3000 feet in Scotland. The name derives from Sir Hugh Munro, who was the first person to explore and list all such hills. Although the photograph was taken on a fine January day in 2001, the weather can turn very nasty, and many people have lost their lives travelling this route. Notably a group of five men lost there lives here on January 1st 1959, when they lost there way during a snow storm.

Snow is at its most beautiful when it casts a pale blue light, and this exquisite photograph is an excellent example of this effect.
